06/10/2010

The Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol are investigating a Felony 1st Degree Vehicular Assault that occurred approximately 11:15 a.m. this morning. The victim interviewed later at the hospital stated 3 vehicles come up his long driveway over the period of about 20 minutes or so.

When he approached them to see what they wanted they advised they were doing asphalt paving in the area and wanted to know if they could pave his driveway. He ran the first two vehicles off and told them they were trespassing and then the third vehicle that approached him was a white colored believed to be a Cadillac Escalade with what he believed to be South or North Dakota license plates.

He stated the two men appeared to be of Hispanic origin. With the driver being a light skinned male approximately 40-50 years of age with short dark hair and noticeable acne scars on his face.

They wanted the same thing they asked to pave the mans driveway. Again he told the men to leave and stepped back away from the vehicle to call 911 on his cell phone. The victim then stated the men floored the accelerator and drove completely over the top of the man in his driveway.

The suspects then left the area in an unknown direction of travel. The victim is being treated at a local hospital for serious injuries.

The first vehicle was reported to be a blond or gold Suv type vehicle and the second vehicle was reported to be a large white diesel truck with a small police type light on top and possibly a placard of some kind on the side. This man was said to be a white male age unknown with very tanned skin and walked with a noticeable limp. He was heavy set with a potbelly.

There are traveling paving contractors that come through this area every year and they usually have multiple dump trucks and equipment with them. The boss men try to line up the work and they drive around in new vehicles usually with out of state license plates. They usually stay at the local hotels or campgrounds.

Some of these traveling paving gypsies can be very dangerous and have committed criminal offenses across the country up to and including murder.
