The Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for the position of communications officer. Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of employment, must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be a U.S. citizen, and not have any felony record or convictions for any crime involving moral turpitude.

Applicants will ideally have general computer knowledge, be able to deal well with the public professionally, and complete multiple tasks at the same time. The position works 12 hour shifts, including both days and nights, with rotating days on and off, including holidays. The position will work out of the newly opened Cape Girardeau County / City of Jackson Consolidated Communications Center.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to, answering emergency (911) calls and non-emergency calls for service, serving as the central answering point for the Sheriff's Office and Jackson Police Department, logging calls for service and dispositions into our computer aided dispatch programs, dispatching by use of a radio law enforcement officers, fire departments, and medical first responders to calls for service, entering and maintaining warrants, orders of protection, and updating the sex offender registry.

Prior experience is not required.  The position include a standard county benefits package, including 12 paid holidays, two retirement programs, health, dental, and vision insurance, paid vacation time, and a $50.00 monthly uniform allowance.

Applicants for corrections officer must be at least 18 years of age at the time of employment, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be a US citizen, a resident of the State of Missouri, and must not have any felony record or convictions of any crime involving moral turpitude.

 

The main responsibility of these officers is to maintain security within the detention facility, process inmates in and out of the jail, enforce jail rules, policies, and state statues within the facility. Prior experience is preferred, but not required. Starting pay for Non-Commissioned Corrections Officers is $16.00 and Commissioned Jail Deputies is $18.27.  The position requires shift work, with rotating days on and off, including holidays.  In addition to pay, the position includes a standard county benefits package, including 12 paid holidays, two retirement programs, health, dental, and vision insurance, vacation time, and a $50.00 monthly uniform allowance.
