Halloween Safety Tips
The Halloween holiday is coming up soon! We remind everyone to prioritize safety this Halloween when carving pumpkins, decorating, dressing up in costumes, and trick-or-treating.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has shared several helpful safety tips to ensure children enjoy the fun and excitement of Halloween safely:
Costumes
Choose flame-resistant fabrics and bright colors, or add reflective tape to make children more visible to vehicles at night.
Ensure costumes fit properly. Avoid overly long or baggy clothing that could cause trips or falls.
Masks
Make sure eye holes are large enough for clear vision and nose holes allow adequate breathing.
Candles
Keep candle-lit decorations and jack-o-lanterns out of reach of children and flammable materials.
Whenever possible, use battery-powered or LED lights as a safer alternative.
Treats
Add reflective tape to treat bags for nighttime visibility.
Check that all treats are individually wrapped before eating.
Avoid giving small toys with detachable parts to children under age 3.
For additional information on Halloween safety, visit the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at www.cpsc.gov.
Halloween can be a safe and enjoyable evening for everyone with a little preparation, communication, and diligence. Deputies will be on patrol throughout the evening to help keep our neighborhoods safe.
If you need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us - and as always, dial 911 in case of an emergency.
We appreciate your cooperation and wish everyone a safe and happy Halloween.
